I’ve published links to a bike club and cycle club in the Southend and Essex area.
Bike Ride around Essex
Hockley Woods is a great place in Essex for mountain biking too, with a vast area linking Rayleigh and Rochford. I have a mountain bike, and a road bike, but have never joined a cycle club. I must admit looking at their websites instantly makes me feel like becoming a member this year! I’m 46, but still have a ‘bit of life left in me’, so I will join, and share my experience with you as a ‘newbie’ later in the year (when it warms up). A bike ride around Essex is a far better way of seeing your local countryside than from a car.
So what started out with me deciding to compile a website about Hockley Woods, may now lead me to make new friends, keep fit, and see other parts of Essex from a saddle!

Cycle Repairs
Do you know of a really good local bike shop that carries out cycle repairs or sells new bikes and doesn’t charge the earth? Email me geoff.grove@btinternet.com or call 07802 195204
Bike Tagging
Security tags with electronic chips are implanted in the frame of your bike, are fitted in minutes, and ensure it’s far more likely for your bike to be returned to you in the event of a theft.
There are lots of bike tagging events comming up. For details visit Rochford Council Matters Online website Bike Tagging

I was very interested in your website. I note that you say that the runs of the Southend Section of the Forty Plus Cycling Club start on Tuesdays and Thursdays at about 9am. Most in fact start at 9.30am, although there will be some starting at 9.00 in April May and June and there are occasional 10am starts. Times can be seen by following the links you have posted or on the Southend Section website
